Master of Public Health/Master of Health Management (Extension)

The Master Public Health / Master of Health Management (Extension) dual program is an innovative approach to postgraduate health education enabling candidates to specialise in both public health and health management and develop research skills in health management.The dual MPH / MHM (Extension) program provides students with advanced disciplinary knowledge and skills to undertake population health and health services management roles in government, community and health service settings in Australia and internationally. The program develops public health and health services leaders who have the capabilities to manage within increasingly complex and rapidly changing health system environments. The program promotes sophisticated understanding and application across the complex body of multidisciplinary knowledge of public health and health management including: epidemiology, biostatistics, social determinants of health, health promotion, population targeted health research methods, leadership and workforce management, strategic planning and change management, quality improvement, and health program and policy design, implementation and evaluation. Graduates are equipped with the specialised skills needed for health management research and evidence based professional practice and leadership across a range of contexts including ministries and departments of health, government and non-government and voluntary organisations, primary care and community healthcare services in both public and private sectors. The program fosters judgment-ready practitioners critically reflexive practitioners who can manage and improve health service systems and outcomes and can contribute to improving public health outcomes in diverse settings.
